Analyzing the Problem

Google Photos and Apple Photos are photo gallery apps: one timeline of every photo, on-device and cloud, that the user scrolls, taps to view full-screen and swipe through neighbors, with new device photos backing up to the cloud automatically in the background, and the full cloud library appearing on a fresh device after sign-in. In-app editing, sharing, ML search, face grouping, and albums are out of scope.
